Bespoke Vs. Conventional Bed Bases

After a hard day’s work, there is nothing as truly luxurious as a cosy bed, but few have been crafted to provide the support actually needed. Some beds are much too firm whilst others are much too soft and in either case it is difficult to get the rest you need throughout the night. Actually, the beds in our homes can remind us of the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The first bed is way too hard, the next is way too soft and finally the last one has just the right amount of comfort. This is how you can get a good night’s sleep if it can be found.

Then there is size to think about. Some people have a need for custom-sized beds and conventional mattresses just won’t do. People who are extraordinarily tall, for example, don’t fit comfortably on anything but a bespoke mattress made to their measurements. Also, some bed frames have been custom-made to fit within a designated area, whilst other times someone just wants to have a special bed built to their specifications. When it comes to bed bases there are three different types available and each serves a unique purpose. All are custom made but they are built according to the amount of support needed. First there is a sprung bed base which has edges that are firm with the centre being sprung, providing a medium support overall. An antique bed base is typically used for a four poster bed, a brass bed base or wooden bedsteads that have side rails. Both of these two types of bed bases, antique and sprung, have Belgian cotton damask upholstery and usually striped ticking.

One of the most requested bespoke bed bases is the divan bed base which can be crafted to any depth or shape imaginable. These are also typically upholstered with Belgian cotton damask and sometimes the choice for upholstering is traditional striped ticking. One of the lovely aspects of divan bed bases is that they can be made with up to four drawers on a double divan. Not only does this make for a truly remarkable looking bed but also provides extra storage for linens and oftentimes people use them to tuck away their night clothes.

Although the reality is that a mattress should be firm enough but not too firm to offer support for the body, it should also not be too soft since a good deal of the support is provided by the bed base. Mattresses and bed bases which have been pre-manufactured rarely are quite right and this is a reason why customized mattresses offer just the right amount of support necessary. You can sleep throughout the entire night with the proper amount of support and then get up in the morning quite refreshed and relieved from the previous day’s tensions.
